Choose the EPYC 7402P when the application fits within 128 GB of memory and 4 TB of raw NVMe capacity with recovery headroom left over. Move to the EPYC 7443P when 256 GB of memory or 7.68 TB raw is part of the requirement, not merely a possible future convenience.

Because the core and thread counts are identical, the higher-capacity machine should not be described as twice as fast. It can hold a larger resident dataset or more guest memory, but throughput still depends on software, storage layout and the actual delivered platform.

Size memory from the working set

For a database, include the operating system, cache, connections, maintenance jobs and failover margin in the memory estimate. For virtualization, reserve capacity for the host and avoid allocating every listed gigabyte to guests. If the measured working set remains comfortably below 128 GB, unused memory on the larger offer does not create value by itself.

Both catalogue entries explicitly identify ECC memory. ECC reduces one class of memory error; it does not replace application integrity checks or backups.

Larger devices, same two-drive topology

The EPYC 7402P lists two 2 TB NVMe devices, while the EPYC 7443P lists two 3.84 TB devices. Both remain two-device configurations. A mirror reduces usable capacity but can preserve service through one device failure; independent volumes maximize available space but change the recovery plan.

Device model, endurance and measured latency are not published here. Confirm them if write intensity or predictable tail latency is a purchase criterion. The 10 Gbps port is included on both offers, but end-to-end throughput must still be tested.

Use a capacity threshold, not a brand verdict

No. It offers more guest-memory and storage headroom, but a smaller host can be appropriate when measured demand, growth and recovery margin remain within the EPYC 7402P envelope.

Does the 10 Gbps port guarantee 10 Gbps to users?

No. It is the included unmetered port speed. Remote throughput also depends on routing, congestion, protocol overhead, the peer and the workload.
