Dedicated workload

Off-site backup server rental

Choose a separate physical destination for backups you operate. Size retained copies and recovery work before selecting a capacity figure, and confirm that the destination is genuinely separate from your source.

Hardware priorities

  • capacity — verify it against the application, dataset and recovery objective.
  • region separation — verify it against the application, dataset and recovery objective.
  • restore testing — verify it against the application, dataset and recovery objective.

Selection rule

Start with capacity, region separation, restore testing. Leave headroom for recovery work, then compare the fixed monthly price with the same workload's metered alternatives.

Deployment path

  1. Select a configuration and US region.
  2. Choose TrueNAS or attach a custom ISO.
  3. Add an SSH key and fund the USD ledger with crypto.
  4. Confirm the installation window and wait for completed delivery before moving production traffic.

3 min guide

Start with retention and the restore requirement

Bring the protected data size, daily change volume, retention schedule, expected growth and acceptable recovery window. Include the space needed to receive new copies while retaining the old ones. Do not base the order on an assumed compression or deduplication ratio that you have not measured with your own data.

Define the recovery unit: an individual file, an application database or an entire service. This affects how you will retrieve, verify and restore a copy. The destination purchase should support that procedure, not simply provide more disk space than the production host.

Compare bulk capacity with a smaller NVMe target

Raw capacity is before redundancy, filesystem overhead and free-space reserves. The storage models' HDD totals exclude their separate NVMe devices; confirm the disk topology for the order.

  • Xeon Silver 4310 storage: 192 TB raw HDD capacity and 64 GB listed ECC memory. Consider it for a capacity-led backup repository that fits the smaller chassis.
  • Xeon Gold 6338 storage: 480 TB raw HDD capacity. Compare it when measured retention and growth justify the larger allocation, not because every backup needs the biggest host.
  • EPYC 7443P: 7.68 TB raw NVMe with a 10 Gbps port. An alternative for a smaller retained dataset when the bulk HDD configurations are not the right fit.

Make separation and protection explicit

A second machine in the same location is not automatically the off-site design you need. Identify the source location and confirm the destination region and availability. Geography alone does not establish independent credentials, an isolated backup path or protection from deletion by a compromised account.

This rental is a destination you administer, not a managed backup service. Scheduling, retention, encryption, credentials and restore testing are your responsibilities unless separately agreed. Immutable retention, object lock, air gaps and a private replication network are not included by default; name any required control before requesting a quote.

Check the whole path and prove a restore

Both HDD storage offers list a 1 Gbps port; a higher-speed upgrade requires a quote. Size against both the recurring copy window and the recovery transfer you may need. Port speed is not a promise of throughput from the source, through its uplink, to the destination disks.

Confirm backup-software and operating-system compatibility before delivery. Then verify a completed copy and perform a representative restore before depending on the new target. Allow for recovery work and rental renewal in the operating budget; keeping a backup useful requires more than successfully ordering the hardware.

Questions before you order

Is this the same as the quoted off-site backup option?

No. This page helps you rent and operate your own destination server. The catalogue's separate off-site backup option needs a quote that states exactly what is provided and who operates it.

Are the stored backups immutable?

Not by default. The rented hardware does not establish immutable retention. Specify the required software, access separation and retention behavior, then confirm the solution before relying on it.
